Meet Washington Dentist, Dr. Edward J. Roman
Dr. Edward J. Roman earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1973. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S) degree from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1977 and opened his dental office in Washington, Pennsylvania, in 1979.
He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, the Dental Society of Western Pennsylvania, the American Academy of Periodontology, and a past president of the Washington-Greene County Dental Society. Dr. Roman has also served as an adjunct senior professor of periodontics at the West Liberty College School of Dental Hygiene in West Virginia and continues to be active in School activities. He is also a Principal Owner with Oak View Dental Laboratory in Washington, PA, which integrates cutting edge laboratory techniques into the practice’s crown, bridge, and implant philosophies. Additionally, Dr. Roman is a member of the renowned Organization for Safety, Asepsis, and Prevention. The international organization that works to increase preventive and safety measures protecting patients’ oral health.
Dr. Roman’s specific areas of interest in the Practice are comprehensive diagnosis and treatment planning, complete oral rehabilitation, implant restoration, crowns, bridges, veneers, and bonding. Dr. Roman also has gained additional knowledge through his extensive studies in periodontics as an Associate Member of the American Academy of Periodontology and TMJ therapy. He has studied extensively with the Dawson Academy in St. Petersburg, FL and the Spear Institute in Scottsdale, AZ. Dr. Roman has recently begun a lecture program for Dentists emphasizing oral rehabilitation and treatment planning in conjunction with Oak View Dental Laboratory. He also lectures regionally for Straumann Implants.
Born and raised in Canonsburg, PA, Dr. Roman has resided in Washington since 1978. He and his wife Gena, a retired teacher with the Trinity School District and currently a bookkeeper, were married in 1973 in Immaculate Conception Church in Washington, PA. They are the parents of Elissa Spangler, A Math Teacher in Amanda, OH and Chris Roman, a dental laboratory technician and principal owner of Oak View Dental Laboratory who resides in North Strabane Township. They are also the proud grandparents of Jesse and Isaac Spangler of Amanda, OH, and Adilynn Roman of North Strabane, PA. Dr. Roman is a past president of the Washington YMCA and has been active in a volunteer capacity with many local service and athletic organizations.
Dr. Roman believes in educating dental patients so they fully understand the treatment they are about to undertake. “With all the technology and new research knowledge available to dental professionals, treatment plans have become more complex. It is our duty to build trust with our patients by fully explaining the value of treatment and its associated obligations such as appointment frequency and costs,” he says. “We build trust and loyalty by performing patients’ dentistry in the manner we described to them and by fulfilling our obligations to them.”
